Overview of CSS

CSS, or Cascading Style Sheets, is a style sheet language that is used to describe the presentation of a document written in HTML or XML. It is the language used to style the appearance of web pages, including elements such as colors, layouts, and fonts. CSS is an essential technology in web development, and it plays a crucial role in creating visually appealing and responsive websites.

Before CSS, web designers had to use HTML to control the appearance of elements on a page, which made it difficult to maintain consistency and made the code complex and bloated. CSS revolutionized web design by providing a separate language for styling, allowing designers to easily make changes to the appearance of a website without altering the underlying HTML structure.

One of the key features of CSS is its ability to create a separation of content and presentation. This means that the HTML contains the actual content of the page, while the CSS is responsible for the layout and design. This separation makes it easier to maintain and update a website, as changes to the design can be made without altering the content.

CSS also offers a wide range of styling options, including the ability to set colors, fonts, margins, and positioning. It allows for the creation of complex layouts, such as multi-column designs and grid systems, which provide flexibility and control over the appearance of a website. CSS can also be used to create animations and transitions, adding interactivity and visual interest to web pages.

There are three main ways to apply CSS to a web page: Inline, Internal, and External. Inline styles are applied directly to individual HTML elements using the style attribute.
